SharePoint Twitter Community Comes Together for Good Cause

LAS VEGAS, NV -- October 15, 2009

The power of Twitter and Microsoft SharePoint are coming together to support a good cause in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 20, 2009.  Karuana Gatimu, Principal Enthusiast of is the lead organizer of a TweetUp, which is an event for people who connect on the social networking site Twitter on the subject of the Microsoft SharePoint Conference being held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas, October 18-22.  Initially a fun, informal social event at the House of Blues at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, the SharePointTweetUp has drawn over a hundred registrants and corporate sponsorship.

Seeing a trend that could be put to good use, Ms. Gatimu selected and contacted the local charity Opportunity Village to be the recipient of any donations that could be raised on its behalf.  “The SharePoint community is all about collaboration and increasing people’s quality of life through technology,” Ms. Gatimu stated.  “The companies who were willing to sponsor this event -- DynTek, CorasWorks, Nintex,, and SharePoint Unleashed -- all have a commitment to share the good will that we so freely receive in our professional lives.”

Any profits raised at the event will be donated to Opportunity Village.  They support vitally important programs and services for people with significant disabilities that help create productive and rewarding futures through vocational training, employment, therapeutic respite, creative arts and social opportunities.  More information about the charity can be found at  On-line donations can be made at  Please note SPC09 next to your last name to have your donation counted for the SharePoint Twitter community.

Ms. Gatimu further states that, “All of us in the professional community around Microsoft technology enjoy a good life.  Opportunity has come to us through our hard work and we are grateful for the chance to give back to those who encounter different challenges than those we are wrangling every day with technology.  I’ve never met an IT professional who wasn’t also willing to be of service when called upon.  Now is our time to prove that!”
